Cutting Board Care
Caring for, sanitizing and keeping your board looking new is very easy and will only take a few minutes. I have compiled a quick set of instructions for caring for your new cutting board.
Cutting Board Care Instructions:
- Wash your cutting board after each use with warm soapy water.
- Wipe dry with towel and leave out on counter on cutting board feet or by standing it upright on its edge to dry.
- Once a month apply Butcher Block and Cutting Board oil, and top coat with Cutting Board Conditioner, more often if used frequently.
Do Not:
- Submerge cutting board in water. The wood will absorb the water and can cause warping.
- Wash cutting board in the dishwasher. The extreme heat and excessive moisture from the dishwasher will stress the joints and cause severe warping, cracks and splinters in the cutting board.
- Use bleach or baking soda. Bleach will dry out the cutting board and baking soda can permanently stain and discolor the wood. Use lemon and salt as an abrasive cleaner instead.
Cutting Board Oil and Conditioner Application:
- Apply generous amount of Butcher Block and Cutting Board oil. Rub in with lint free cloth, allow to soak in for 20-60 minutes and wipe dry.
- Apply a small amount of Cutting Board Conditioner to your board and rub in with your fingertips, add more as needed until the whole board has a thin coat. Allow to sit and soak in for at least an hour or overnight then wipe off any excess.
Repeat monthly or as cutting board starts looking dry.
To relieve your cutting board of scratches, a quick sanding with 220 grit sandpaper will keep it looking new.
